Advanced process control (APC) enables the refining and petrochemical companies to run industrial processes with the highest safety and reliability, minimize an operating cost and keep production with respect to existing environmental regulations. The combination of APC application with other optimization technologies may prove it is beneficial and profitable in operation.
Materials and methods
APC controllers perform based on mathimatical modaels of first and second orders with time delay. Quality Estimators (QE) of APC system are being developed as linear and non-linear regression models. For non-linear QE a mathematical apparatus is used based on a special case of neural network. At the base of APC controllers there are dynamic models of the first or second order with time delay.
Results
Application of Advanced process control system proves functional effectiveness on industrial sites. Statistic of economic benefits includes energy saving, throughput increase of the most valuable products and catalyst lifecycle extension.
Сonclusions
Process optimization with APC is not one-timeaction. It should be performing continuous actions to improving operation parameters in continuously changing dynamic systems. Yokogawa APC systems are implementedon refining, petrochemical and chemical enterprises all around the World since 1993 in quantity of about 2000 applications. It lets the production sites to increase plant’s profitability and production rates, decrease in energy purchases from outside and maintain the product yields automatically to market changes.
